Boonsville is on Farm Road 920 about 20 miles southwest of Decatur in southwestern Wise County. Around thirty farmers had settled on Boon's Creek by the mid-1870s, a post office opened in 1878 with Joseph Roth as postmaster, and Charlie Miller built a cotton gin on South Willow Creek in 1880.
