Metal Shingle and Metal Tile Roofs

Metal shingles and metal tile are interlocking metal pieces formed to look like shingles, shake, slate or tile. Their fasteners are hidden, and they suit traditional homes. Snow Roofing & Exteriors installs and repairs metal shingle and tile roofs across Wise County and North Texas from our offices in Bridgeport, Decatur and Rhome. This page replaces our old "metal tile roof" page.

Why choose metal shingles or tile

  • The look of a traditional roof, with metal's resistance to rot, splitting and curling
  • Interlocking pieces with hidden fasteners
  • Steel and aluminum options. Aluminum doesn't rust, which helps near water.
  • Lighter than clay or concrete tile

Metal shingles vs. stone-coated steel vs. standing seam

Metal shingles have a smooth or embossed painted surface. Stone-coated steel has a granule texture. Standing seam shows long vertical panels. All three hide their fasteners, so the choice mostly comes down to the look you want, your HOA's rules and your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Are metal shingles the same as stone-coated steel?

Not quite. Both are formed metal with hidden fasteners, but stone-coated steel has a bonded granule surface, while metal shingles usually have a painted or embossed metal finish.

Do metal shingles dent in hail?

Large hail can dent any metal. Many metal shingle products carry a UL 2218 impact rating, and dents are often cosmetic rather than leaks. We document and explain the difference after a storm.
